About ZuJapan

ZuCity Japan is a node in the Akiya Collective coliving neighborhood located in the Japanese Alps of Nagano Prefecture, about two hours from Tokyo. The project purchases and renovates abandoned akiya homes and hosts popup villages.

  1. First Community Home

    Established the initial akiya (abandoned home) makerspace in Nagano in collaboration with the Akiya Collective.

  2. Property Expansion & First Popup

    Reached four acquired homes within a walkable neighborhood and hosted the inaugural popup city.

  3. Spring Popup City

    Ran a one-month popup focused on futuristic lifestyles in the Japanese Alps.

  4. Build Phase & Annual Popup

    Renovated properties via a volunteer "Build Month," culminating in a 4-week Komoro popup with tracks on self-sovereignty, DeSci, and jp/acc.
